TWO ALCHEMICAL PLACES

On the Margins of Science and History.
Italian Edition edited by Paolo Lucarelli

Mediterranean Editions

This work illustrates the alchemical aspects of two historical buildings known to all enthusiasts and seekers of the gold of philosophers: the villa of the Marquis Palombara in Rome, and precisely what remains of the so-called "hermetic door", and the castle of Plessis-Bourré, in Anjou. Canseliet's literary expression thus concludes with a new draft of his first book, written and published in 1945: a perfect analogy with the alchemical ourobos. There are notable differences between the two editions, which concern not only the part dedicated to the castle of Plessis-Bourrà - finally examined in all the details necessary for a better exegesis - but also some important new laboratory instructions from which the scholar will be able to draw maximum profit. The two splendid residences reveal, in symbols and images, the secrets of the Great Work, but not everyone is given the opportunity to read them. Enigmatic expressions engraved on the jambs and on the architrave of the magic door together with some alchemical-esoteric drawings would contain the indications and instructions for obtaining the philosophers' stone; in the same way, allegorical images splendidly painted on the walls of the castle (and reproduced in color in the volume) allude to and at the same time veil the same secret, which is finally revealed in the rose embraced by the five-pointed star: two precise phases of the work. Like his master Fulcanelli, Canseliet also, through the decorative and architectural elements of these fascinating residences, accompanies the reader towards the discovery of the opus magnum.
